Homemade Sesame Seed Buns Recipe
These soft and fluffy sesame seed buns are perfect for burgers or sandwiches!
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 45°C)
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add the egg, softened butter, and the activated yeast mixture.
- Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Buns:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Lightly flatten each ball to form a bun shape.
- Second Rise:
- Cover with a cloth and let the buns rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Egg Wash & Sesame Seeds:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the buns with an egg yolk and milk mixture.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- Bake:
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
