A delightful creation that combines all the cheesy goodness of a classic grilled cheese with the vibrant flavors of a pizza.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 slices of thick-cut bread (such as sourdough or Italian)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)
¼ cup sliced pepperoni (or your choice of toppings such as bell peppers, onions, or olives)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions
Gather all your ingredients and set them out.
Take two slices of bread and spread about 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice.
On the unbuttered side of one slice, spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce. Layer generously with shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by your choice of toppings. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until the bottom slice is golden brown.
Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
You can gently press down on the sandwich to ensure the cheese melts thoroughly.
Once done, remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it sit for a minute before cutting it in half.
