This unique twist on the classic American comfort food combines savory ground beef with vibrant bell peppers and melted cheese, resulting in a flavor-packed meal that the whole family will love.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20)
1 large bell pepper, finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
4 sandwich buns (preferably brioche or whole wheat)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
While the filling simmers, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place the sandwich buns on a baking sheet. Spoon the Sloppy Joes filling generously onto the bottom half of each bun.
Top each with a handful of shredded cheese, ensuring it spreads evenly over the filling.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley before placing the top half of the bun on each sandwich. Serve immediately.
